Be well. Stay well. Do well.
From handling new responsibilities to juggling a busy schedule, college can be a huge adjustment. But VCU is here to help. We'll take care of your health and safety so you can focus on getting the most out of your college experience.
Safety comes first
We want you to feel at home at the heart of a bustling city.
That’s why we take a holistic approach to public safety. VCU Police patrol campus 24/7, and our extensive emergency information system sends out alerts via text and email, as well as TV monitors located in residence halls and major academic buildings. Students can access police any time — or request a ride from RamSafe, our evening shuttle service — by using one of the 350 easily identifiable yellow emergency telephones located throughout campus.
Combine these resources with everyday personal precautions and you’ve got a safe environment where the entire VCU community can feel comfortable and secure.
VCU Police
The VCU Police Department has 95 sworn officers who patrol both campuses 24/7. Private security guards are stationed in most academic buildings and in residence halls.
VCU Alert
Students, faculty, staff, parents and community members can sign up for VCU’s text message alert system to receive immediate information about campus emergencies, weather delays and cancellations.
RamSafe
RamSafe is a point-to-point evening transportation service exclusively for VCU students, faculty and staff. The program provides safe and free transportation to on-campus locations and nearby residences and buildings.

RecWell provides a broad range of programs and services that support the well-being of our VCU community, including group exercise, outdoor adventure, intramural sports, personal training, aquatics, employment opportunities and much more.
